Introduction

Hey there! ๐Ÿ˜„ It's another exciting day at the Hashnode boot camp, and I can't wait to share what we've learned today. We've reached day four, and as usual, I'm here to give you a fun little recap of the main points we covered during the sessions and my top takeaways. Let's dive in! ๐ŸŠ

A Recap of Day 4

Creating Compelling Video Content

Day 4 was a blast, and it all started with Kevin Blanco sharing some fantastic tips on how to create amazing video content during his super-engaging session. Kevin started with the basics of storytelling, showing us how film writers come up with those captivating stories we all love. When we take a closer look at a movie's plot, we can see how everything flows together seamlessly. It usually starts with the everyday life of the hero, then something extraordinary happens, they gain new abilities, then they find a purpose, tackle it, and by the end, they're totally transformed.

Now, here's the cool part: we can use this same idea when creating our own video content! To make it easy, Kevin shared a simple way to structure our talks:

  1. Gain Attention ๐ŸŽฏ

Start with a captivating statement, such as addressing the user's wants or desires. For example, begin with, "We all know traditional online courses can be dull..." This makes the user stick with you.

  2. Reflection ๐Ÿค”

For this, continue by asking a question that prompts a "yes" response. For example, ask, "Wouldn't it be great if we had interactive courses instead?" By asking this, you are making the listener curious about what's coming next.

  3. Transformation ๐ŸŒŸ

Finally, it's your time to introduce your solution and outline the next steps the user needs to take. For example, continue with, "We at XYZ have developed a platform where you can... Visit ....com to get started."

Kevin also shared tips on how to properly set up lighting for appealing videos. He suggested that it's important to have a key light pointing at your face, making sure to soften it. Additionally, use some fill lights to manage shadows and highlight yourself, while incorporating practical lights to separate you from the background.

๐Ÿ’ก
Kevin recommended 'DaVinci Resolve' for video editing.

Documenting Your Work to Secure a Remote Job

I was quite amazed by Deni Khalikov's teaching skills. Although a screen-sharing issue left him with only twenty minutes, he amazingly completed his session, providing many useful insights.

Here are the five tips he shared to ensure you stand out from the crowd:

  1. Your Profile ๐Ÿ‘ค

The first step is to have a clear profile photo; you can use tools like pfpmaker. Ensure your banner complements your profile by making it a one-liner. Keep your bio concise. Add necessary links and make sure you have a pinned tweet stating your work achievements, contributions, etc.

  2. Your Work ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

He emphasized the importance of tweeting about your work, assisting others, and sharing feedback. Ideally, we should tweet at least three times daily.

  3. Your Community ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

Following the steps outlined above will gradually help you build your community. By maintaining consistency and putting in the effort, you can achieve a community of around 2,000 followers in 5-6 months. This will enable you to connect with like-minded individuals.

  4. Your Network ๐ŸŒ

Many of us, myself included, assume that network and community are the same thing, but Deni clarified that your network consists of people you can approach for opportunities within your community.

  5. You ๐ŸŒŸ

Finally, make sure that we ourselves are genuine and demonstrate the kind of people we truly are.

Building in Public for Developers

Tim led an insightful session, emphasizing the importance of showcasing our work to others. He explained that a developer who works in secrecy is nine times less likely to secure career advancement compared to a developer who openly shares their work. He also shared the benefits of sharing your work:

  1. We can gain insights about whether our product fits in the market or not. ๐ŸŒŸ

  2. We can receive early feedback. ๐Ÿ“

  3. Sharing our work can help us build trust. ๐Ÿค

  4. It aids in building a personal brand. ๐Ÿš€

  5. It improves communication skills. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

  6. It brings us closer to opportunities. ๐Ÿ’ผ

  7. It helps overcome imposter syndrome (self-doubting one's own skills). ๐ŸŒŸ

Apart from this, he also stated that the keys to building in public are consistency and continuous learning from others.

Leveraging AI as a Developer

The final session by Muzzammil focused on how we can utilize Artificial Intelligence in the development process. He explained how AI can assist us in various aspects of our project development, such as debugging, code generation, testing, and more. Muzzammil also emphasized that AI is not here to take away our jobs, but rather to help us perform better in them.

My Learnings

As always, I learned a lot today. Here are some of my key takeaways:

  • Learned how to structure video content ๐ŸŽฌ

  • Discovered how to use proper lighting during videos ๐Ÿ’ก

  • Learned how to properly document our work ๐Ÿ“

  • Understood the importance of creating networks ๐ŸŒ

  • Grasped the significance and benefits of sharing our work as developers ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

  • Learned how to leverage AI during development ๐Ÿค–

Conclusion

In conclusion, day four of the boot camp provided valuable insights into creating compelling video content, documenting work to secure remote jobs, building in public as a developer, and leveraging AI in development. These lessons will undoubtedly enhance our skills and open up new opportunities in our careers. ๐ŸŽ‰

Eagerly awaiting the upcoming sessions...
